Heritage buildings in Penang

Chinese Clan Houses / Kongsi Houses – Kongsi houses were built by the Chinese who migrated to Malaya during the 19th and 20th century. If you explore the streets of George Town, you will find many beautiful clan houses, such as the Khoo Kongsi (photo), Yap Kongsi, Cheah Kongsi, Tan Kongsi and Lim Kongsi. Fort Conwallis – this is said to be the landing site of Capitan Francis Light (of the East India Company) in 1786, when he took over the island. The fort is located at the tip of the cape in George Town. Originally a wooden stockade, it was rebuilt in 1804 by convict prisoners.
